Barashtra

The sunken capital city of the nation of Indus. Destroyed in the cataclysm that sunk the entirety of Indus beneath the sea, Barashtra is now a flooded ruin inhabited by strange monsters and ghosts of the past.

History

By the summer of 23 ARL, Barashtra had been firmly under the control of a group of asura tyrants for a long time. Their undead minions wandered the city, and a colossal wraith construct formed from the suffering of their victims roamed the watery skyline. The only survivors of the pre-sinking civilization were a giant snake named Gugaji and a burgeoning civilization of rat people, all occupying the still-unflooded sewer system.   Then Pele Firewing and her adventuring party arrived, led to the ruined city by the fire god Agni. Over the course of two days, they annihilated the wraith construct and most of the undead, set to flight any asura who they didn't destroy outright, recovered a number of artifacts from the city's great museum, and evacuated a small group of young ratfolk to live in Marc Zhayress's city. The status of the city since then is unknown.

Points of interest

Barashtra features a large museum containing a variety of impressive exhibits and magical artifacts, the building defended by wards of such strength that it remains unflooded and intact even after nearly three decades under the sea. Only Pele Firewing and her party have been able to infiltrate past the wards in all those years, and while they did take a number of artifacts from display and storage, many still remain.   A collection of secret spy tunnels span the city. Even now, they can provide a mostly dry route through parts of the city for those who can find and access them. Some still contain supply stations and bases with useful tools and places to safely bed down.
