Durrian
Durrian
An elven bladesinger who wields a spear. Formerly serving the dark elves in Thesk, he is now living in exile under the assumed name Durrian. He's in a relationship with Aetheril Vorethil.
The name "Durrian" is an elven language reference to being "the dark one". While this could be taken as ominous, it's at least as likely that it's because he had very black hair as a baby.

Personal history
Durrian was born on the continent of Caladonia in the country of Burgardess/Elsia. He took up pottery as a profession, but his life took a dramatic turn when his sister was chosen for a special duty by the old god of renewal. Durrian joined a party of several others who were going with her to guard her on her quest. Despite his initial lack of fighting prowess, he took up a leftover spear and shield in her defense.
At the end of the quest the god sacrificed Durrian's sister to instigate the renewal. Durrian, distressed, asked after his sister, but the god was indifferent and didn't acknowledge her death. Enraged, Durrian struck out and killed the weakened god. The god cursed him and the spear he carried as it fell, inflicting him with one of the worse kinds of immortality. He can still be mortally wounded, but he'll never actually die; if things were to go sufficiently wrong, he could experience what it was like to be ash for eternity.
The death of the god of renewal started the downfall of the Elsian Empire and began Durrian's time as a villain. He had to run from heroes for many years.
Durrian first met Aetheril Vorethil when Durrian was working as an adventurer on the side of the dark elves in a war with the elves in Thesk. The dark elves may have been evil, but they accepted him. Ril's party was working for the opposing side. The two parties ran into each other, and Ril and Durrian ended up being the adults in the room and prevented their parties from fighting. They left each other with a respectful nod.
Subsequent events, including further run-ins with Ril and Durrian's exile from Thesk, have seen Durrian become more heroic over time, and a romance with Ril has finally begun in earnest.
