Ixtelchiltli

Red Daughter, Lady of Bones

Ixtelchiltli is the Teotl of the red moon, known as Tol to the Eshtem. She is the wife of Xonacue, teotl of the dead, dreams and travelers.

She is worshipped as a guide in the darkness, she is called to for intercession by those with no luck and no hope left to them. She is thanked whenever anyone escapes a misfortune that they had no right escaping. She is usually represented as a slim, pale skinned woman with crimson hair holding a lit torch before her and wearing a mantle of raven feathers.

Slaves, soldiers and prisoners are among those who worship her most fervently. Her other aspect is as daughter of Acuecueyolotl, who calls her to fulfill her duties as daughter and drive the tides as her mother demands.
