Ixtelcotictli

Lady of Still Waters, Gentle Daughter

Ixtelcotictli is the Teotl of the blue-green moon, known as Han to the Eshtem. She is teotl of lakes, springs and wells. She is the consort of Xantoc, teotl of the rains and rivers.

Ixtelcotictli is worshipped and prayed to by farmers, travelers and those wishing to find sweet water or receive gentle rains. She is believed to intercede with and moderate her husband’s violence and passions, turning torrents that would bring flash floods and desolation into nourishing and moderate downpours.

She is called on to guide the green switches of water seekers hoping to dig wells and discover springs in parched lands. Ixtelcotictli is usually represented as a turquoise haired woman holding a bowl of water in one hand and a dipping spoon in the other, wearing a mantle of green feathers.

Her other aspect is as daughter of @Acuecueyolotl, who, with her two sisters, calls her to fulfill her duties as daughter and drive the tides as her mother demands.
