Alwyn the Wretched / The Wexem Rebellion

Wexem is a province of Praetum that is currently under rebel occupation. The timeline of events leading up to the rebellion is foggy at best, with most who were in on the conspiracy refusing to explain much of what happened during the uprising. During the Culling of the Archons, before it was named so, a shrewd and lucrative lackey of the Archon of Wexem caught wind of the assassinations well before most others did. Around this time, some believe as little as two nights after the true Culling, this incisive plotter managed to gain audience with the Archon of Wexem and assassinate him with little effort.   The plotter named Alwyn Morass, known to most as Alwyn the Wretched these days, was one of the Archon's military advisors who'd seen many battles against Arsinia in times prior. Due to his standing with the Archon, Alwyn managed to secure a private meeting with him. The Archon, named Barus Tyche, allowed Alwyn into his chambers and after a short conversation was murdered. The following morning, Alwyn emerged donning Archonry robes and demanded protection from the guards loyal to him. With a short and somewhat dull skirmish, most loyal to Tyche left the lands in search of new Archons to follow. For now, the rebel and traitor Alwyn would lead the province until the Grand Primarch could muster forces to dispose of him.   While most in Praetum saw this as just another part of the Culling, Alwyn was not working with any insurgent members and simply took power for himself when chaos erupted in the south. Now with his own province under control and highly defended with units once controlled by Barus, Alwyn ensures that even the Grand Primarch couldn't simply dispose of him on his way south to deal with Carina. He simply doesn't have the forces to stop three separate conflicts at once. Even despite its close proximity to Brimwough, Grand Primarch Aunslas II seems confident that Alwyn will remain on the defensive and simply keep to his region for now. Alwyn keeps civilians from leaving by covering all roads leading out of Wexem with a handful of guards and checkpoints. Should someone attempt to circumvent these checkpoints, they would have to brave the treacherous wilds that envelop this land. Crows feast well on those with little wit in this part of the world.   In Wexem, life is bleak. Over the past months, bandits (comprising not just local thieves, but also military members as well) ransack and rob villages. The common farmer or city resident is subject to destruction of property and a complete lack of care for ones goods. Many poor farmers have had their food stores raided and stockpiled in Wexem's regional capital, Crim. While satisfaction is at an all time low in the region, there is seldom a chance to do something about it. Alwyn's army, now a glorified band of thugs, shut down even the slightest hint of rebellion with massacres. Pogroms have become almost a weekly occurrence in the province. Some scholars debate that Wexem will be devoid of all farms within the year if such ransacking continues. Most of the civilian population is starved, beaten, and downtrodden in the wake of Alwyn's rebellion.
