Elves

Elvenkind can trace its origins to Elessar and can be split up into a handful of subraces: high elves, wood elves, eladrin, half-elves, and the drow. The most important trait the elves carry is their connection to the Feywild and the divine energy that created them. The oldest elves are all near-eternal thanks to Elessar, while the youngest find their divinity to be diluted and their lifespan to be shortened. Even with this shortened lifespan, they still live longer than every other race provided they aren't taken by disease or killed before their time.   High Elves. High elves are considered to be the fairest and most intelligent kind of elf. High elves make up a large portion of high society in any settlement they're present in. One of the defining characteristics of their culture is the ceremonial eating of flesh. By undergoing this ceremony, high elves are able to gain the memories of other elves they consume. They can gain the memories of other races as well but to a far lesser extent, typically only reliving the way in which the person died/the moments leading up to their death.   Wood Elves. "Wood elf" is the catch-all term for any environmental elf. Technically, this includes various subdivisions of elf such as the sea elf, mountain elf, and snow elf. Regardless of their surroundings, wood elves are natural-born protectors of the land and its inhabitants. As such, wood elves can all speak with and understand animals.   Eladrin. Otherwise known as seasonal elves, eladrin are descendant from the seasonal (Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring) courts of the Feywild. Their cities are mostly in the twilight realm of the Feywild and sometimes cross over to the Material Plane, appearing briefly in mountain valleys or deep forest glades before fading away.   Half-elves. Half-elves are produced by any elf parent breeding with another race. They are present in Rhune but are by far the least represented kind of elf, just under the drow. Due to their heavenly decline, it's frowned upon for an elf to reproduce with a non-elf as it further weakens their link to the divine realm.   The Drow. The drow are a group of elves that have been corrupted by the Shadowfell. They tend to live underground because of their aversion to sunlight, but will occasionally go to the surface if required. A drow parent will always produce a drow child, regardless of the other parent.
