Lizardfolk

The lizardfolk have a rich oral history in which their traditions and way of life are passed on from one generation to the next. The most important story they tell is the one of their creation-- of Semuanya and Kayquala. The moral that they take away from this story is that thinking is bad. Semuanya lived a full life on instinct and survival alone while Kayquala was stuck in indecision. As such, the lizardfolk shun intelligence.   The only exception to this rule are the lizardfolk that are born hermaphroditic. These lizardfolk are viewed as holy as they resemble the whole Kayquala.   Needless to say, the lizardfolk are a low-tech and low-magic race. They can and do construct simple tools, but you will very rarely find a lizardfolk tribe with huts or any other kind of built shelter. As for magic, the only kind they would practice is nature magic for the purposes of furthering the tribe's survival. Holy magic is never seen as Semuanya never answers any prayers.   Furthermore, lizardfolk are a standard patriarchal society. The males go out and hunt while the females care for the tribe and the children in it. If you were to come across a male lizardfolk in the wilds, you are likely far away from its home. If you were to come across a female, you are dangerously close to the tribe and could be in imminent danger. This kind of society likely stems from the fact that lizardfolk are entirely unempathetic. They cannot feel nor comprehend emotion.   Finally, all lizardfolk are products of their environment. The conditions that a lizardfolk egg is placed in determines that lizardfolk's gender and skin coloration. An egg that was given little in the way of nutrients will produce a male, while one that was given many nutrients would produce a female. An egg placed in a jungle would produce a lizardfolk that is naturally jungle-camouflaged, and an egg placed in snow would produce a white lizardfolk.   You could technically engineer a lizardfolk by manipulating the environment it's hatched in, but a tribe would never intentionally do this.
