Adred Roberts
Captain Adred Roberts
Adred Roberts is the younger brother of Wesley Roberts, and second captain of the pirate vessel, The Princely Pauper. Though they share the same name, blood and profession, the two brothers could not have been more dissimilar. Where Wesley was gentle and generous, Adred was viscious and greedy. And while these were but latent traits in the days they sailed together, the power and opportunities presented to him in his new role as Captain allowed them to come to the forefront of his character.
No longer was Wesley's code of piracy honored on the Princely Pauper, save for a few holdouts who remained loyal to Wesley and his code. Adred fostered a villainous mentality among the crew, and cemented his leadership by bringing in new crewmen, cutthroats and butchers one and all.
On one fateful raid, he ordered an attack on a wealthy merchant vessel belonging to Bertrand Goldenhair, owner of the Goldengair Trading Company. But rather than allowing surrender and the taking of prisoners, Adred and his marauders slew all aboard: the captain, the crew, even the civilians aboard, including Bertrand and his family. All were left dead but one- Bertrand's daughter, Noel, whom Adred took as his concubine.
Unable to stomach this crime and the new direction of the Princely Pauper, Pocket Strings - one of the few remaining crewmen still loyal to Wesley - decided to commiy mutiny against Adred, igniting a rivaly that would define both men, for better or worse. After an evening of drunken revelry among the crew, Pocket Strings snuck into Adred's cabin and stole away with many of Adred's most prized possessions: a magic compass leading to the treasure horde of the Pirate King, prototype weapons with the potential to change warfare across Rolara... and Noel Goldenhair herself. The two escaped into the night in a small dinghy, and by the time Adred rose from his drunken stupor, they were long gone. But he swore that he would one day take revenge on both his nemesis and his prize.
