Description
Tobias is a harengon with anxiety. He only enters new spaces through the window or after following a specific ritual, and he relies on substances like coffee and alcohol to give him confidence to engage in social situations. Though commonly seen as a coward, he’ll put himself in uncomfortable situations if it means helping his friends and family.Family
Tobi is originally from The Black Moors where he and other harengon lived in burrows underground. He’s used to big families and small spaces, giving cause to some of his idiosyncrasies. At the beginning of the year, Tobi spoke fearfully of the monsters he had to flee to survive in the Moors and his desire to live somewhere free of such horrors. However, it later came to light that his family was forcibly removed from the Black Moors due to The Railroad project, and Tobi’s sponsorship at Strixhaven was part of the deal. The harengon were used to living off the land, and in being relocated to cities, they begged in the streets for enough to survive.Year 1 Involvement
A fellow Krokt Tower resident, Tobi became fast friends with Shelley and the two established a tradition of staying up all night together every weekend. Their relationship gave him the courage to face many situations he often wouldn’t, from social engagements to B Squad activities. He’d get jealous at times when Shelley showed similar affection for others, such as Zanther, and was at their side every day they were in the infirmary for alcohol withdrawal. Yet not even the strength of their friendship prevented Tobi’s involvement with the Oriq. Due to her heavy investment in the railroad, he blamed Captain Dapplewing for his family’s relocation to the city and was glad to take it out on the school as a whole. He obeyed Oriq decrees, helping Dean Kianne against the F Squad and other students. Even when the F Squad discovered his betrayal, he did nothing to help against the plans designed to kill them. Whether too ashamed or too afraid to face what came next, he drank a poison that made him forget everything from the last year. This included all his involvement with the Oriq, as well as his friendships with everyone in Krokt Tower. Tobi will be repeating his first year at no extra cost to himself or his family. With the Black Moors being rebuilt and the deforestation brought to an end, his family will soon return to their homes. With proper reparations, Tobi hopefully won’t follow the same path a second time.
