Ixtal Jungle (Ish-Tall)

Ixtal is the large, tropical jungle of eaastern Shurima that is considered the domain of Lizardfolk. For long ages, these jungles have remained a mystery to outsiders. A combination of the deadliness of traversing the terrain and the intense territorial behavior of those that call this dark abode their home make for one of the most hostile regions behind the Shadow Isles and the ruins of Icathia.

Only the Lizardfolk and other cold-blooded creatures can endure the stifling heat and humidity for long, not to mention the diseases and illnesses that one can contract from the insects. To its native Lizardfolk, however, Ixtal is a haven- a deathrap to invaders and a bulwark against the incurring Void from the south.

Geography

It is estimated that most of the Ixtal Jungle is covered in jungle so thick that its many levels of canopy block out the sky, even the peaks of mountains and plateaus. It has been reported that the jungle floors of explored areas are choked by dense undergrowth and that there are few true paths beyond animal trails. Visibility is limited and the air is thick, often wreathed in drifting mists.

Fauna & Flora

A great amount of both the flora and fauna are carnivorous in one way or another. Grasping creeper vines, blood-hungry spore clouds, and alluring man-traps are just some threats that adventurers have come across. Beyond the usual jungle creatures of big cats and monkeys, there are many more dangerous creatures that roam these lands. Long extinct from the rest of the world, giant reptiles roam beneath the canopies where they reign supreme.

History

Jungles used to cover the vast expanse of the Shuriman continent. Nowadays, the jungles are mostly limited to the eastern quarter.

Tourism

Not too many tourists make their way out to Ixtal and many of them do not leave alive.
