Reindeer

Reindeer are an important animal in Ruslavia, particularly for the nomadic Milk Drinkers who live on the shores of the Lake of Milk. They use reindeer for transportation, milk, meat, hides and antlers, and they also hold reindeer in high spiritual regard. For the Milk Drinkers, reindeer are seen as a symbol of fertility and are associated with the mother goddess Ajysyt. Reindeer also play a significant role in the winter holiday traditions of Ruslavia, as they are believed to be the animals that help Ded Moroz (also known as Grandfather Frost) deliver gifts to children on Stary Nova (New Year's Eve). The Milk Drinkers, who follow the Old Beliefs and also some of the Orthobog religion, have a tradition of decorating their reindeer with bells and ribbons during the Zima season.
