Panalo
Panalo consists of the thin peninsula in the Southeast Samarya, but it is also used to refer to the main village furthest inland, just south of the Gilded Hills.
Demographics
Panalo is primarily home to an odd mix of Halflings, Tritons, and Tortles. The average person is either a farmer, fisherman, or diver.
Government
Due to their isolation and peaceful history, Panalo has had no real reason to form a government. Residents typically keep to themselves, trading for whatever goods they do not produce themselves. Merchants are arguably some of the most important people in Panalo, as they make the long journeys back and forth to import and export goods. The Avandran Shamans are held in high regard as well.
Occasionally, democratic meetings among concerned residents are held.
Defences
The Gilded Hills , with their wandering monsters and frequent bandit attacks, provide defense from the north. Rocky coastlines on either side of the peninsula prevent large ships from reaching close.
Industry & Trade
Panalo is known for its Dragon Bone chili peppers, which can be ground into Dragon Bone Chili Flakes. Bags of these flakes are loaded onto caravans for export each year.
From the sea, fish, shellfish, and pearls are caught. Farmers typically only grow enough to trade within the community.
Architecture
Panalans build their homes from a variety of materials. Traditionally, stilted houses with thatched roofs are built, some above water. These were designed to be easily deconstructed or easily rebuilt in the event of a storm, while the villagers took refuge in the Hills. Trade with other cities encouraged more stable constructions, with stone and metal being imported from the mainland. However, since the decrease in trade following the Ruin of the Sea and the rise of the Oda, these materials are increasingly hard to come by.
Geography
Sandy shores encompass most of the peninsula. The main village of Panalo rests at the meeting point between these shores and the hilly lands north.
Natural Resources
Wood, fish, vegetables and fruits, and spices are easily obtained throughout the peninsula.
Metal is especially rare. Most use obsidian and bone for items that would otherwise require metal.
Wild chickens roam freely throughout the streets.
