Born and raised in the Vambont House, Xergal was the oldest of 6 children, all raised into the family business of monster hunting. While monster hunting takes extreme amounts of discipline and patience, Xergal was constantly called disobedient by his parents and elders, but he has no trouble following authority when authority is not acting stupidly. Yet, he would rarely let anything get in the way of his raging curiosity. Once, around 12 years old, he was caught in his father's forbidden library, a place he frequented frequently. This particular time, he had been practicing the art of infusion weapons, and was sent to Sooryapesh to help build magic stealth technology in their cold war against Rakavidha. His uncle, who had always encouraged Xergal's "independent research", gave him an interesting arcane focus, which could switch from a cane/quarterstaff like object to a spear with a reversible blade. Knowing his talents were being wasted in a conflict that would not resolve, he was able to contact an old educator who had recently become a teacher at the Platinum Academy. Although his application demonstrated his capabilities in the academics and the arcane, Xergal was not able to earn an invitation due to his lack of personal recommendations. In particular, his family raised concerns of disobedience to the applications committee. Still, his name and scores caught the attention of the Elven Community of Knowledge and Progress, who offered him classes and to fund his research.
