A cataclysm unlike any other hits the Golden League. System after system goes dark and trillions of lives are extinguished. Communications are cut beforehand and any ships heading out into systems effected never return. Reports of great fires across the surface of planets and strange beings or ships descending from tears in the sky eventually make it back to the government with small bands of survivors limping back into Golden League space. Mass confusion turns to panic as Capital Worlds are swallowed whole.
Refugee fleets begin desperately trying to find some place safe, looking further and further afield.
Rumours begin to circulate about a system hidden in a nebula on a distant galactic arm that up until now had only been used as an observation station and some of the refugee fleets make a bee line for it.
