Astea
The Free Kingdom
Home of the diverse peoples known as Asteans, the Kingdom rose from the Ebon War as a respected rival and ally to the Solurian Empire . Through the strict leadership and metered compassion of King Erwin II, Astea came to stand for freedom - whether in trade or relating to the beliefs of its citizens.
These days, the capital city of Astea is a bustling hub of trade and vice. If you look hard enough, you can find just about anything within its great alabaster walls.
The Royal Family
Astea is ruled by the Domini family, who have held the throne since the Ebon War in 210 LY, having guided the Kingdom's forces in a heroic defense against the advances of the Solurian Empire. King Erwin II brokered a piece with Empress Soliné of Soluria after the death of Emperor Solaire at the Ebon Keep. The current ruling monarch is King Lionel, a portly man with a kind heart, who relies heavily on the Mage's Council and their allies for the day to day operation of the Kingdom. Lionel is well-liked by many of his people, but opponents of the Domini bloodline have recently raised their voices in concern for the lack of discipline and martial prowess the King displays.Asteans
The people of the Kingdom are varied and heavily multicultural. The slave trade before the Ebon War saw an influx of rare and foreign sentient species, leading to a population made up as much by non-native races as it is by the human ancestors of the founders. While racial tensions do show occasionally, most of the people of Astea have long become accustomed to all sorts of interesting folk. Citizens of the capital Free City find themselves in a metropolitan hive of activity, offering for sale or purchase anything one could desire. Outside the major towns of the Kingdom, many families make their living by farming in the plains around Diamond Lake, or mining in Lorent.Geography
Astea stretches from the Ebon Temple south of the Great Peak to the southern coast of the continent of Soluria . The Kingdom extends from the western coast to the Pale Crossing south of Ebon Temple
It is bordered to the west by the Long Strait, to the north by Soluria, to the east by the Tchen Sea, to the southeast by Redhand, and the south by the Mysty Sea.
Mountains
The Kingdom is home to a number of mountains. South of Soluria's Great Peak along the northern border, the Vanguard Range offers an initial natural barrier to any force arriving from the underdark connections within the Great Peak. This range consists of three distinct peaks, with a passage of approximately 50 miles between the eastern pair and their western sister. Just north of the capital city, Mt. Yimor and Jake's Peak are only dwarfed by the Great Peak. These two mountains offer easy access to construction materials such as stone and raw metals. While sparsely treed and treacherously rocky near the peaks, the bases of both mountains are fertile land used by farmers of the Free City. Jake's Peak is primarily mined for metals and stone by a number of mining companies in Lorent.Natural Resources
Astea is rich with wood from the expansive Southwood, stone and metals from the mines of Lorent, and many agricultural products due to the vast open plains and hills surrounding Diamond Lake in the center of the kingdom.
