Khizar Dwarf (KIZ AR)
Utilize Mountain Dwarf from the PHB
The industrious Dwarves of the mountains at the Spine of the World are in many ways the prototypical dwarves on Sanzeia. They value hard work, stoicism, and resiliency. They are often compared to the rock or steel they work with, taking a long time to commit to anything, but being near unwavering in their commitments once they are made. While technically the older of the two dwarven traditions, the dwarves of Khiz display a culture that is in many ways closer to that of humans than their Gunargite Dwarf cousins.
Naming Traditions
Feminine names
Most feminine Khizar given names are short (no more than 3 syllables) and end in a vowel sound.
Masculine names
Most feminine Khizar given names are short (no more than 3 syllables) and end in a hard consonant sound.
Unisex names
Names ending in softer vowel sounds are more gender neutral, but are not generally seen as making a female/male child more masculine/feminine respectively.
Family names
Khizar dwarves tend to refer to themselves using parental names (such as Dorn son of Forn) and consider these more primary identifiers than the family or clan names which they also possess. Thus it is not unusual for Khizar dwarves to take different surnames depending on marriage, major life events, professions, or even personal preference.
Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Khizar culture tends to emphasize function, production, and the good of the dwarven people as a whole. Excessive or detrimental individuality is to be avoided, or at least kept private, but the dwarves also tolerate pretty much anything "so long as the work gets done."
Average technological level
The dwarves of Khiz are said to be the most talented metal and stone workers on Carentress. Their crafts are rugged, practical, and emphasize the strength and function of the material. While magic is no doubt used in the craft, it is hidden rather then flaunted in the way elven goods are.
Ideals
Relationship Ideals
Marriage for a dwarf in Khiz is a very practical and utilitarian institution concerned with pride, property, and function. It is arranged between families. Love, romance, and passion are generally sought out individually. To the nearby humans, the dwarves seem to have very little in the way of faithfulness in their marriages; While to the dwarves the concept that ones lover and spouse are the same person is a rare, happy ideal. This disconnect has caused its fair share of incidents.
