The Watcher, Unnamed

Lady luck, the Bringer of Ills, the Magician, the Architect

The most enigmatic of the elder divinities, the Watcher presides over the divine portfolios of magic, knowledge, and fate. Where the rest of the gods are loud, brash personalities, the Watcher is the quiet architect behind it all and is believed to have some roll in making sure that Sanzeia is preserved and protected from all of the various hostile forces.   The Watcher is a god of knowledge for the sake of knowledge, devoid of the powerplays and considerations of that the followers of the Forgotten One and is a favorite of mages, scholars, and civil servants.

Tenets of Faith

The followers of the Watcher believe in the preservation and experience of knowledge by all means. They feriecly oppose the idea that knowledge and learning is something to be controlled or limited to certain classes, races, social groups, etc.  Those faithful not actively involved in study in a higher institution such as the Cerulean Tower in Belde, are often serve as school teachers or even bards. Among the faithful, a tale of great hero and a terrible monster are of equal value for the lessons they give, and should be told to everyone.

Holidays

The Watcher is honored during the ninth month of the year, Pheali. The equinox, on the 19th of this month, is a time of quiet reflection and great breakthroughs.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

If tales are to believed, the Watcher remains one of, if not the, most physically active of the divinities on Sanzeia, though its manifestations are rarely consistent. Colloquially, one is said to be "guided by the Watcher" anytime one experiences a sudden burst of understanding that seems completely external. At these times the Watcher is said to have taken the form of such things as a bright ray of light, a glow on the face of a statue, a passerby humming a tune, or even a memory of a loved one.   When said to appear physically, the Watcher is said to manifest in voluminous robes of white and blue, and to conceal their face beneath a hood. Unlike most gods which are considered to have a primary expression when it comes to species and gender (e.g. Throndar is considered a male orcish entity even while appearing in the shape of a human female) the Watcher is typically referenced as whatever its expression is at the time.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

Although all the gods are capable of appearing as any gender they wish, the Watcher appears especially willing to embrace this power and seems to change shape and gender with the ease that a mortal changes clothes.

Sexuality

Especially in comparison to the other divines of Sanzeia, the Watcher is pointedly non-sexual as an entity. This does not extend to the Watcher's followers, who at least once have been accused of promiscuity under the heading of "expanding knowledge."

Employment

There is a sense, particularly among the Watcher's faithful, that while the rest of the divines are indulging themselves or pursuing their own goals, the Watcher is too busy doing an important behind the scenes task to engage.
