"You bridled and saddled that horse the elven way. Who taught you to do that?"
-native Desert elf speaking to a young noble
Desert Elves, also called
The Sun Elves or the
Dune Elves, are an elven race who live in
The Elfdunes south of the Tawill-ruhm Mountains.
The Desert Elves are master horsemen, rivaling even the
Ash Lords. Their primary export and trade is in horses.
Society & Culture
Cities in the Elfdunes exist as independent merchant republic city states bound by common waterways or cultures. Each city is ruled over by a Shiehk who is elected from a council of merchants and influential people.
Dress in the Elfdunes favors breathability. Light, flowing dress is common and many of the best silkweavers come from the Elfdunes. Desert Elf jewelry is known for its intricate glasswork and shining opals.
Food in the Elfdunes varies slightly from city to city, yet staples include hummus, falafel, citrus, and many horsemeat recipies.
Origins
The Desert Elves share an origin mythos with the
High Elves and the
Nordstrand Elves , with them all beleiving themselves made by the Elven Twins. The Desert Elves believe they are the natural side-effect to the creation of their cousins, the
Sea Elves , being the dry land to that is required for an ocean to exist, and vise versa.
Language
Desert Elves speak Elven, with enough similarities that they can carry a conversation with most of their elven cousins.
Common Desert Elf names include Hamid, Rashar, Abic, and Tahir.
Relations
The Desert Elves trade frequently with their cousins the Nordstrand elves, trading horses and exotic fruits for lumber and ships.
Desert Elves seldom ever cross the Tawill-ruhm mountains into
The Shrieking Oaks to the north. Trade with any of the small settlements there is made impossible by the danger of the The Shrieking Oaks untamed wilderness.
Horse Culture
Much of the culture of the Desert Elves revolve around horses, as the distances between the cities are vast and dangerous.
