The Dwarven Treaty

A treaty between humans and Dwarves, preventing violence between the peoples and setting their borders in stone.

Purpose

A treaty to solidify alliance between Dwarves and humans 194 years after the Great Magic war.

Historical Details

Background

The Dwarves and Humans were led to victory in the Great Magic War by King Marothsa, the Dwarven leaders and the king swore to never war with each other, and maintain peace between their peoples. In the mid-100s HE, humanity started spreading and founding cities close to the Durnhalla mountains. In 193 HE, the Dwarven leader of Kazaram called king Marothsa to his aid, as the peaks above Kazaram were plagued by a mighty ice demon, which threw jagged icicles down upon the city from his mountain perch. Upon defeating the monster, King Marothsa and the Dwaren leaders drew up the treaty, which was later signed in Kazaram.

History

Copies of the treaty were made and distributed to all major human and Dwarven cities, with the original being held in the deep halls of Kazaram.

Legacy

The Dwarves have disliked this treaty since the day it was written. Its subversion involved when the Goblins arrived in Saramoth, as well as their general victim status in the world have made the deals very bad for them. However, as honor dictates, they have never broken it, and never have the True kings of Saramoth fought the Dwarven people.

The Dwarven Treaty

We, the leaders of our people, honoring the oaths of our fathers, do swear never to lead our peoples into combat against one another, or to allow the lesser forces of our nations to clash, nor shall we turn a blind eye while the other is at war, and always assist each other. We furthermore swear to keep free trade, open borders, and full citizen rights between our two nations, and to maintain friendship and close ties forever.
To this effect, let the borders of the newly established Dwarven Sovereignty be laid at any land of the Durnhalla mountains, those lands being no less than 1600 ft. above the level of the sea. These lands are to include the breadth of the mountains, and the borders of them be set in stone, in the making of a deep channel of stone, defining their edges.
If ever the kingdom of Saramoth, or the Dwarven Sovereignty, are at war, or harried by beastly foes, or struck by famine, flood, fire, disease, or any disaster that threatens its people, may the Elves of old strike them down in agony if they will not answer the call of their friends across the channel, and give all aid they may, without threatening the safety of their own homes. If ever the Dwarven lands are in rebellion, and the Dwarves slay one another in their ancient halls, the kings of Saramoth are to intervene, and stop the violence between brothers. Likewise the Dwarves will save the Kingdom of Saramoth from itself, forever erring on the side of the true king, and laying down their lives for him if necessary.
Let all the and many more kindnesses be given between the kingdom's of Dwarves and Men for ages, until our fathers rise from the stone.
