Saga Valgard

Saga is about as girly as a girl of her era can get. Besides being a good cook, the precocious girl keeps her father's house in ship shape. Constantly seeking approval from the man she is too young to know is a husk of who he was, she tries her best to master her mother's recipes even though she was just too young to really remember her. She learned them all from her elder sister Emma, whose knowledge of the recipes far outstrips her ability in the kitchen.

Ever the youthful beauty, when her sister Emma refused to marry the much older butcher, Saga stepped up and took her place. In the months since Emma fled, she has stepped up her works and hired a widow woman to come cook and clean up a bit for the men when she's gone from home. Then Jormundur married in 1544 and the pressure was taken her and put on her new sister-in-law Thorra Valgard.

In winter of 1544, Saga Valgard was supposed to marry Olafur Jonnson. The old butcher had a laugh and declared that Saga was too young for himself, and that Jormundur had misunderstood the initial bargain for his son Knut to marry Emma. Saga married Knut that winter, and bore the large young man a child the following summer, shortly after Emma arrived back in Iceland.

After Emma's death in 1546, Saga grieved for a number of years, but eventually took on the children Bjorn and Benjamin when Julian died.
