One of the great seven holy cities for which the Seven Cities continent derives it's name.
Industry & Trade
The city is widely known for it's steel mines and favorable ports. It maintains one of the busiest harbors in the entire continent.
History
Originally founded by one of The god kings Aren is the first of the "Holy Cities" to come under Malazan rule. Though it's had a temperamental government structure for the last dozen years due to the constant shift of monarchs (it previously had 3 major churches always vying for power).
Natural Resources
Mineral deposites in the nearby mountains have become a large portion of the cities wealth along with the The Emerald Valley and it's capability for crops. Though the latter has never really been a large portion of consistence resources due to the hostilities of the Marat tribes.
