Adras the Pirate Bay, The Slavers City

Government

Officially a Pasha was elected to take care of the needs of the city, at the moment the Pasha is Therim Pasha, Lord of Adras. Unknown to many he is a Vampire, so the next election for a Pasha is... never scheduled.

Guilds and Factions

The Free City of Adras once followed typical magic practices, but after the destruction, the inhabitants came to rely increasingly on devil binding and necromancy as the war with the Empire dragged on. Unfortunately, this meant that evil worshippers and their summoned allies were able to corrupt the Adras nobility from within. These days, almost all magic users use necromantic magic, though thanks to the wide range of creatures they worship, they have a wide range of magic available to them, including energy creation, enchantment, dark fey spells, flesh molding, demon binding, dark aether channeling, and necromancy. In the beginning the city was a bulwark against Darkness, nowaday the Taint Is said to be spreading unseen, maybe seen as a tool to be used more than a sign of corruption and death.

History

Once part of the Empire, Adras split away following the overthrow of the Phan nobles family by a peasant revolt lead by old nobles from the old Adras. The nobles who fled to remote castles after the Phan invasion and swore to one day re-establish the old Republic of Adras, starting with the destruction of the usurpers.

Unfortunately, the surrounding country was a hilly region not suitable for heavy agriculture and never had a large population. Instead it relied heavily on mining and industry to give it the edge, but when that wasn't enough, it increasingly relied upon demon binding to animate its mechanical contraptions, which in turn led to most of the noble families being subverted by demons.

When the grip of the Phan Empire start to fall, the exiled nobles has been quick to take over and to officially restore the Republic, but having an elected government ruling over them was no longer on their plans. They declared Adras a "free city" with no official government, their power assuring their control over the city.
