Velshadir Shadow Elves

The Shadow Elf race was created when the The Almighty Empire invaded the Kingdom of Arborea. All the elves living north of the Arborean Forest herself flee the destruction of their city, mostly going underground in the enormous caves under the Stoneback Mountains. They lived here for nearly on millenniun before emerging again and this changed their people profundly.

A very ancient race, they have a grasp of Necromancy like none else. With the coming of the Phan or Imperial and of their Mighty Fleet the Shadow Elves found to be the preferred object of Phan slave trade. Highly appreciated for their ebon skin (in stark contrast to the blue-white marble skin of the Phan) and flowing white or purple hair, they become concubines or favored by all Phan that can purchase them, that explain why the Shadow elf people was the only one to grow in number when in slavery.

Essentially an Evil and depraved people, it’s debated if they influenced the Phan to what their empire is now or the Phan were “similar spirits” to the Shadow Elf and this explain why they favored them. There are no mixed heritage children, when a Shadow Elf and a Phan mate, the offspring is always a Shadow Elf (and it is said with a stronger magic power).

Still today a lot of Shadow elves remain into the slave quarter of the Phan city, ignoring the call of their brethren outside. Once outside of Phan control the Shadow elf quickly returned to the cult of Sela and their gruesome sacrifice. Other discovered the cults of the Ancient Ones (especially of Atlach-Nacha) and begun following them.

The Adamantium is a rare mineral of purple color is only found in deeper caverns, where the Dark Elf fleeing from slavery turned to hide. Items crafted in Adamantium by Shadow Elves blacksmiths have an exceptional hardness and strength, commanding very high prices. It’s not unknown for Shadow Elf warband to attack and conquer locations with Adamantium mines.

The Hellfire is a terrible mixture created by the caste of priestesses of the Shadow Elves, is said, by trapping the essence of the flames of hell.

The Spider Queen's Spawn are special kind of spiders, trained by the Shadow Elves to repair the damage sustained by the ship with their web or with a cement-like substance they emits.

The Shadow Elves have a very special engine for their windships: chaining winged devils to the hull of the ship and use them to make her move. Needless to say; in case of combat they are also very effective against the enemy.

Shadow Elves have a dark and sinister reputation, and their Necromancer often use their magic to raise the dead members of both crew when in a difficult battle. To them Necromancy is a useful skills, they found no moral problems in rising undead. Important people are routinely preserved from true death in some form of undead.

 

Standard Racial Traits

Shadow Elf character have natural abilities as the other elven races, plus some developed in their life underground.

  • Age: Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.
  • Alignment: Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others' freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not.
  • Size: Arborean Elves range from under 160cm to over 190cm tall and have slender builds. A Velshadir elf size is Medium.
  • Speed. An elf base walking speed is 6 Hx.
  • Darkvision: Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. An Elf can see in dim light within 12Hx of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. They can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Keen Senses: +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. An elf who merely passes within 1 Hx of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it.
  • Fey Ancestry: Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects.
  • Trance: Elves don't need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Velshadir Shadow Elves

  • Ability Score Increase. +1 Dexterity, +1 Intelligence, +2 Charisma, –2 Constitution.
  • Superior Darkvision. Your darkvision has a range of 120 feet.
  • Sunlight Sensitivity. Abrupt exposure to bright light (such as sunlight or a daylight spell) blinds a Shadow Elf for 1 round. On subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area.
  • Shadow Elf Magic. You know the dancing lights cantrip and can cast it at will. Starting from 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell once. Starting from 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. You regain expended uses of this trait when you complete a long rest.
  • Shadow Elf Resistance.+2 racial bonus on Will saves against spells and spell-like abilities.
  • Shadow Elf Weapon Training. You are proficient with the rapier, shortsword, scimitar, and hand crossbow.
