The Eastern City States

First settled in LN1 by brave souls from the nation now known as the Princedoms of Yunhai, the Eastern Coast has grown tremendously over the 13 centuries since. Formed by settlers from every Territory, eight city-states in total have been founded and continue to thrive despite limited population growth and the many dangers inherent to life in such a place.

Ashimachi

The oldest city-state with 13 centuries of history, and set farther into the Coast than any other. Ashimachi features a dazzling island capital city perched upon a perfectly round lake which hosts a vibrant metropolitan area. A popular destination for would-be travelers, historians, religious pilgrims, and all other walks of life, Ashimachi remains the trade nexus of the Coast for magical goods.

Kansujian

A wild tourist trap of a city, Kansujian features casinos, brothels, hot springs, a zoo, and a botanical garden. These were all constructed to make it a popular destination for rich nobles from the Territories who want to experience "a taste of the Sea" without risking too much danger, as the city-state is set only 120 miles from the Shoreline.

Chamatkaar

A giant temple city founded by and dedicated to the Hegemon of Pira, set in the expanse of a massive jungle called The Aakashe. Most of Chamatkaar's population consists of temple workers, who live in labyrinthine passageways under and within the walls of the temple.

Xinyuan

Sized more like a village than a proper city, Xinyuan nonetheless holds great esteem as a trade port set up by the Princedoms of Yunhai. Reaping the bounties of both land and sea, Xinyuan also hosts the largest population of Ilians on the Eastern Coast as it is the primary port through which they emigrate from the West.

Drachenkrone

Actually an amalgamation of four cities with the largest population on the Coast, Drachenkrone is set within a huge mountain range. A major center of industry on the Coast with near-limitless mineral resources at its disposal, the City of Steel is the only city-state where the taming and riding of dragons is commonplace.

Calava

A city built into great geodesic domes and tunnels near a giant eternal volcano called The Throat. Calava is an agricultural city, using Lichtstein from Drachenkrone to replicate sunlight and piping lava from The Throat under the domes to maintain temperature --- the world outside is a frozen wasteland inhospitable to human life.

Althea

Essentially a walled city built around a magical research facility, Althea was founded as a collaborative effort by multiple city-states and Territories to simultaneously advance mankind's understanding of magic and reject the state dominion of magic by the Territories. Althea hosts what may be the largest library on Qarna.

Maqqia

The youngest city-state, but also the largest physically: Maqqia spans the entirety of the Northern Reach, a vast desert run through by an enormous canyon called The Tear. The people of Maqqia are technologically advanced thanks to settlement by Aziran pioneers, and wield such marvels as "Sparkshot" firearms and sandships.

Given the huge distances and abundant resources of the regions in which each city-state settled, armed conflict between them is rare. While disputes sometimes occur between fringe provinces of city-states located close to one another, the actual states seldom do more than send a small detachment of peacekeeping troops with the intent of mollifying or helping to mediate the conflict.
