Leo Omega Jump Gate Alpha

The Jump Gate orbiting Andophael at the L4 point was the primary transportation hub in the high age of the Terran Mandate. It afforded instantaneous travel to and from the sector, as well as to secondary jump gates dispersed throughout the sector in key locations, such as the capital, Leo Prime.

Operational Capabilities

Before the Scream, Jump Gate Alpha operated with high levels of traffic inbound and outbound from industrial operations on Andophael and Hasim. The design follows the standard Terran Mandate pattern for Jump Gates, not only operating as a fantastically complex collection of psitech working on concert, but also as a home and workplace for thousands of workers. This included special facilities and quarters for the 200 or so master psychics required to operate the station continuously in shifts.   Though ring-shaped, the station's shape had nothing to do with artificial gravity generation. Pretech gravity plates were more than sufficient to facilitate perfect Earth gravity for the station's inhabitants. Instead, the ring shape was the direct result of the Psitech used in translocating between two gates. If the ring spun, there would actually be an unpredictable space-time "dragging" effect which could destructively warp any object traversing the gate.

Post-Scream Ruin

The Scream instantly cut off the Andophael gate, as it did thousands of such gates spread across Mandate territory. The exact effects of the Scream on the on-duty psychics is lost to time, but it was certainly more catastrophic than has been uncovered elsewhere. Scientific historians speculate that the gate must have been operational at the exact moment of the Scream, given that the entire segment of the ring housing the Orchestration Chamber is completely missing, sheared off at a molecular level.   The remaining structure suffered a number of further catastrophic failures cascading from the uncontrolled psychic energies of the open gate. This includes power unit failures, warped space-time, and other damage that may or may not have been caused by rampant psychics.   There is also evidence of increasingly desperate salvage and looting, presumably to bolster the rapidly-failing pretech technology base in the years following the disaster. The fall of civilization in Terastont System was rapid enough that these salvage efforts did not have time to completely strip the wreckage of useful components. Thus, in the modern day, there are still squabbling tribes of salvagers squatting on barely-habitable sections of the ring station, scraping a living from the last remaining crevices of pretech materials.
