Hireniko Remingale
Hireniko became the eleventh Eastwind in S306, after the death of her father Hiyobe Remingale.
Personal History
Hireniko was born in S278 and raised at Takai Basho in the High Court of Zonyashi. Her grandfather, Hatachi Remingale, was the ninth Eastwind and her father, Hiyobe Remingale was in line to become the tenth one day. As such, no expense was spared in Hireniko's upbringing or her education. She learned to speak common, Shudani, Yo'ii, Liquon, and sylvan fluently. She could debate politics with anyone in her grandfather's court, and she understood all of the logistics required to train, move, and feed the armies of the Shudan Shogunate. She also demonstrated a small affinity for druidic magic and is said to have spoken often with the three horses she owned. She rode daily, and could shoot a bow from horseback better than even the most experienced among the Senku. In S294, when she was sixteen and visiting distant cousins in West Gale, she tried to demonstrate that fact on an unfamiliar horse who broke its ankle during a chase and fell on top of her. Her left leg and arm were both crushed, but she refused to be taken away and treated until she finished calming the horse down. She also waited until the owner of the horse was found so she could purchase it and ensure it would not be put down as a result of its injury. The horse never ran again, but was able to live the rest of its life in the care of the side branch of the Remingale Family. Hireniko's leg recovered, but her arm was amputated as a result of the delay to her treatment. She was saddened to give up archery, but within a week she was back to riding daily despite the rest of her family protesting. She stayed in the Western Province for the next six years, spending time in West Gale and exploring the surrounding region on horseback. During this time she met and developed feelings for a Pannoowan warrior named Qochata. He was working with the Senku in the north west and was eager to spend time with the young woman who spoke his native language and rode as well as or better than anyone he had ever met before. In S300 Hireniko returned to Zonyashi after hearing word of the death of her grandfather. Hiyobe became the 10th Eastwind and Hireniko was forced to return to the world of politics for a time. After being away for so long, and as a result of her injury, many in her father's court were eager to write her off. She surprised them all by returning with the same wit, charisma, and intensity she had demonstrated years before. After only 8 months in the city, with her position and that of her father more firmly secured, she returned west to find Qochata again. The two were almost immediately married and settled in Yokoni. In S301 they had a daughter named Nadeshiko and the following year their son Shukogoshiko was born. When word of her father's declining health reached her in S303 she convinced Qochata to follow her back to Zonyashi where she took up more and more responsibility running the shogunate for her father. In S305 she and Qochata saw the birth of their third and final child, a son named Takao. In S306 Hiyobe died and Hireniko was named the eleventh Eastwind of Shudan.Relationships
