Shimaho
This large residental estate drew its name from shin no maho, the Shudani phrase for the core of magic. It serves as the home of the Atsutane Family in Nanganato.
This is the largest of their family estates. Currently is it the home for Zannur Atsutane, the head of the main branch of the family and the Daimyo of the south.
Architecture
The entire estate is surrounded by an eight food tall wooden wall which is interrupted by a small wooden watch building on the right and left sides, and by an intricate wooden and stone gate on the front.
The gate opens to a large courtyard of manicured trees and flowers outlining a small grassy hill in front of a larger grassy hill. A small lake occupies most of the left side of the courtyard, and a stream branching off of it flows between the hills and then curves around toward the back of the property. A wooden bridge crosses from the peak of the front hill to a point halfway up the larger hill behind it, allowing one to cross over the small stream.
Beyond the larger second hill is the main residence, which is surrounded by a covered veranda called an engawa. Stairs lead up from the yard to this engawa and the main entrance to the building beyond that.
