Yona
Yona is the goddess of the home and hospitality, sharing two related responsibilities. The first is protecting the home. That sometimes means safeguarding the structure of the home from storms and fires, or simply keeping the hearth burning and the household comfortable. Even more than the building though, it means protecting those within it. Keeping them safe and healthy is what she is respected for the most.
Her second responsibility is providing food and shelter to those with none of their own, a task she completes through her followers. In large cities they set up buildings where the tired and hungry can come for rest and sustenance, provided by donations from the community. Even in small settlements where no such dedicated buildings exist, it's usually not hard to find shelter in the humble home of any devoted follower of Yona.
Description
Yona appears in the form of a middle aged woman with sun kissed skin and long black hair tied into a number of pony tails with emerald embedded gold bands. She has piercing green eyes that match the bright stones in her hair and on her earings, necklaces, and bracelets. She wears a huīpīlli style blouse, dyed many bright colors and embellished with feathers, beads, and more emerald stones. Her skirt is similarly colorful and embellished, but her shoes are simple looking leather sandals. Those who find themselves on her bad side might be surprised to see her wielding Hostility, a large wooden club too heavy for all but the strongest humans to lift, edged with jagged prismatic blades of obsidian. As intimidating as the weapon appears, it pales in comparison to the way her face transforms. The creases in her brow, the fire in her eyes, and the sharp fangs in her mouth give off the appearance of anything but hospitality.Personality
Those less familiar with Yona view her as a caring motherly figure who spends her time looking after others, and there is certainly an aspect of that to her personality. In truth however, she considers herself a big sister more than a mother. She loves her proverbial siblings of course, but is not above using force to keep them in line. She is wild and fierce, and uses playful threats, or sometimes deadly serious threats, to ensure that everyone is well looked after and protected.Followers
A follow of Yona is referred to as a Yonite. The largest organized group of Yonites are the Order of the Hearth.Places of Worship
