Maelstrom
Maelstrom is a terrestrial planet in the Hevelius Arm. It is, by all accounts, uninhabitable. The entire planet is covered in a thick, yellow-green acid-like smog. The upper atmosphere is host to near-constant, raging lightning storms that are known to swat ships right out of the sky.
Despite these conditions, it is home to a secure Vindustries research facility. As it is incredibly dangerous for ships to pass through the stormzone, a spacelift was built to ferry people in-between the surface and the geosynchronous spaceport in orbit. Vindustries requires the facility's employees to make it their home. They are only granted one week of paid leave annually, which isn't even enough time for most workers to make it home.
