Born in 365, Ilya II was the first of the
Shiroko Dynasty to be born in the
Gandenye. While the structure had not been completed by this time, the primary residence of the Shiroko family had moved permanently from their ancestral home in
Parishi to the capitol of the empire,
Niuus.
His father was an older man at the time of his birth, 57, and very much invested in running the empire. However, Sava was very particular about making time for his son, something Ilya was grateful for. He also gained a great deal of appreciation for the former country of Ulena due to his mother's status as a member of Ulena's former royal family. In particular, he found the mines and mountains fascinating, spending a great deal of time there during his formative years, when his father allowed it. During his
Attunement Test, he was found to be a
pyr-esh.
At age 3, his younger brother,
Vasyl I Shiroko, was born. The two became extremely close and Ilya enjoyed taking his little brother along on his trips. They were also trained for rule together by their father. Ilya was taught to make the
Ilyannoi alongside his brother, but specifics in leadership, delegation, and international affairs were mostly within his education as the presumptive heir. After his father's ascension, inherited rule was becoming the standard and the nobility expected Ilya to take over.
When Sava retired, Ilya was crowned and immediately set to work trying to enhance the position of the mining industry within the empire. In the first year of his reign he married the second daughter of the former Farenese royal family and they had a son,
Timof I Shiroko, who would later rule. Sava's construction of the Gandenye had left the empire in precarious financial straights and Ilya saw the path to financial stability as going through the gold and other metals within the mines. He and Vasyl discussed trying to increase trade with
Yzel.
However, before such plans could be brought to fruition, Ilya contracted a high fever in the second year of his reign, a strange thing as he had rarely been sick throughout his life. There was some discussion that he had been poisoned, something Vasyl took to heart, although there was very little evidence for it.
In order to recover, Ilya was sent to Parishi where his father was staying and Vasyl took over the daily running of the empire, although the younger brother had not been trained as extensively.
Ilya's condition worsened over the next several weeks and he was unable to eat, first vomiting everything presented and then losing the ability to swallow solid food. Three months later, he fell into a coma and starved to death. Sava returned to the Gandenye in order to help Vasyl, who was crowned as the next emperor.
Since Ilya's death, scholars have been torn over what, exactly, the illness was that caused the young
baejan to die so early. Some state that he was poisoned while most believe that this was unlikely. He had few enemies and had only just begun his reign. The most common theory is simply an unfortunate illness, a random, natural event that sadly led to his death.
