Ksanik

Overview

Ksanik was a settlement close to the Ulena-Yzel border before Yzel conquered the other kingdom. After Ulena was freed by Ilya Shiroko, the town still remained in Yzelian hands and this has continued into the present day.
Situated in the western mountains, Ksanik was an unimportant town until irum was discovered nearby. This mineral was originally used in small jewelry pieces, but was desired enough that the town was able to revitalize their economy using the ore.
However, as its use in jewelry declined, they began working with various magic users and craftsmen to determine another avenue to market the ore. This was how its usefulness as a magic suppressor was discovered and refined, leading to the ore being used by both Yzel and Eoion as a major component in restraints for magically proficient criminals.
Yzel now exports a large amount of irum from Ksanik and its use is very widespread. The location of the town near the border of Yzel and Eoion makes it a prime location for trade and many merchants in the ore and jewelry business come through. Yzel's gems and Eoion's precious metals are traded there as well, although the local economy is mostly sustained by the mining of irum.

Demographics

Most of the population are descendants of the citizens of Ulena, but now consider themselves Yzelian due to how long the town has been under the control of Yzel. A few Eoin merchants and workers have settled there, along with a very minor population of Vloibare and Marn.

Government

The town is overseen by the regional lord, but day to day operations are managed by a very minor noble family with ancestry back to the days of Ulena.

Industry & Trade

Almost all of Ksanik's industry centers around the mining and refinement of irum. There are several active mines in the mountains surrounding the town, along with refineries, which employ both essence magic users and people who have no skill in magic. These refineries are where the ore is made to absorb whatever essence is necessary. 
Within the town itself are a few inns which cater to a variety of merchants. There are also craftsman who still make jewelry out of irum.
