Session 12: What's at Stake

General Summary

April 23, 2023

Roused from your sleep, Gobta rushed you half awake through the chaotic streets of Ceres. Though the attack wasn’t supposed to happen for another few hours, Ceres launched an attack as soon as allied forces were spotted. Weaving through the streets towards Steepkeep Keep, you encountered a small group of soldiers that you quickly disengaged from and kept racing forward. Fen caused some auditory hallucinations to throw them off of your tails and Gobta hurried you towards Gonzo, their direwolves, Varlog, Tara, and Aired. Altogether, the goal was to storm the keep. That immediately made a turn for the worse as the lock for the gate to the keep snapped and caused the gate to crash down—separating you three, Varlog, and Aired from the rest of the group. As the main force of the gold cloaks came crashing around them, you had a whole other problem on your hands. Ena Tradove and her two new lackeys caught your attention. The interaction began with you yelling across the 30-foot courtyard at each other and flipping one another off. Mage Hands got involved in the “fuck you” battle as Timothy hones his magical skills through his ancient tome. Thorns exchanged blows with Ruby—the archer—and stole—but politely gave back—her still beating heart, Fen worked away at Ena as Theo repeatedly shocked her metal armor breastplate. All the while, Timothy chased his fallen book across the battlefield before Thorns disemboweled him after Timothy killed Ruby with a powerful thunder wave. Ena fell shortly after as Aired and Varlog bade goodbye to their tormentor for the last time. Making your way into the keep itself, you encountered the still silhouette of a man in the middle of the hall. Thorns performed an excellent sneak attack and with his dying breath, the civilian pointed towards the previously empty but now currently occupied throne that held the familiar face of Thirk Crackedhammer—who took the time out of combat to spell his name for you. In the midst of fighting and once again discussing ideologies of free will and serving a lord—-such as Yeengrough—Thirk summoned a young brass dragon to the battlefield who delivered an icy breath. Thorns delivered a hundred years of death upon Thirk, Theo catapulted a knife through his open hand and Fen slashed and hacked at him until Thirk Crackedhammer breathed his last breath and fell dead to the floor. After glowing with a radiant power, Theo conversed with the dragon for a good while and struck a deal. If the dragon let them go, the three of them would retrieve the dragon’s soul from the Underdark. The dragon mentioned that they would need to perform a ritual of blood and fire upon The Seal and would need the writings of the Tablet of Fyre to guide them. This ancient tablet has been a puzzle to historians and archivists for centuries and was destroyed when Fyredel was laid to waste.
