Doghog the Great died during The Battle of Rockshambo that took place 1000 years ago. A small religious group (The Holy Rapture of Rockshambo) had risen up to challenge King Aredy Walt II (before the Aludin line was in power) in The Radiant Keep. Doghog fought with the Walt line and fell to Morgoth—the demon lord dragon that had terrorized Sentius for eons longer--though the battle was ultimately won by Walt's forces. He was revived and summoned by Thirk Crackedhammer during his final stand but for some reason, Theo was able to talk to this dragon. He has tasked the party with retrieving his soul from Morgoth in the Underdark within a year or he personally will burn the world down before Morgoth.
