Scuraspheres
At the height of the Age of Ascendancy, the powerful across the Empire had mastered the most powerful forms of Blood and Stone Magics. Records talk of masters teleporting themselves vast distances in an instant, or mastering the ability to change their forms into that of any living thing.
The mage Zurghasta, leader of The Cabal, had mastered the art of chaining energy capture and release in such a way that he was able to create pocket dimensions of all sizes. The largest and most famous of which was his legendary creation of Refuge itself.
There were many much smaller applications of Zurgasta's invention, but no less wondrous. Thety were commonly used as convenient storage, or transport, and collectively know as Scuraspheres.
The defining feature of a Scurasphere is that they can take up far less external space than the space they encompass. The surface can be as small as a pinprick in size - like a tiny glttering star the size of a grain of sand. Some may be the size of small holes, or even elaborate dooreways and gates. However, when tuned to particular command words, programmed into hey can be made to open and allow access to and from the interior of the scurosphere.
Inside lies a pocket dimension - of various size, where items can be stored or hidden, and in the cae of the most powerful magics, entire worlds and ecosystems.
The most common during the Age of Ascendancy were simple personal closets, where people would store their goods or perishables as they travel. Others were the size of warehouses, where merchants and traders could transport vast quanitites of goods in the palm of their hands.
Rarity
Scuraspheres are extremely rare, most having being lost forever during the Destruction, and the secrets of their construction were lost with the death of Zurghasta and the many other mages of the time. A few of the smaller scuraspheres survived with their owners in Refuge, and have been since handed down to thier descendants. These are usually of a personal storage size, enough to hold a closet of clothes for travelling, and the known ones are held by the richest of the Lords and peoples of important across the Protectorates. It is also rumoured that Annika Lux had one in her possession over her long tavels, and it is this that contains her Lost Journals. There have been a few scuraspheres discovered in the ruins beneath the plains of the Shatterbright, along with some pre-Destruction documents recovered that have helped the Lords of Fire make progress in recovering the abilty to make them.Kyroshi's mansion
The largest known Sucrasphere to have survived into the modern era is owned by Lord Kyroshi, who makes no secret of flaunting his ownership. He recovered the sphere from the ruins beneath the Kyroshi Pit and has lovingly restored it to much of its former glory. The interior contains a huge rambling mansion in the style of architecture from the Age of Ascendancy with the sprawling building surrounding a large open garden complete with a stream and a central lake nearly 100 metres across. The sphere has a pleasant temparate climate (a wonder to those raised in the sunside lands around the Gleaming City), a breathable atmosphere, mancured gardens, and what is probably its most curious fature for those living in the age of Shadowfire: a day-night cycle. Kyroshi has restored the interior of the Mansion, its baths, bedrooms, dining halls, ballrooms and gardens, and it travels with him wherever he goes. He is known to host extravagent parties within the mansion, invites for which are highly coveted.Significance
Even a small Scurasphere is extremely useful. They allow for the easy transport of bulky materials by a single courier.
