Balakai (a.k.a. Balakai Kirk)
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Slender but hard muscled. Both heavier and stronger than he looks, a dangerous predator who looks like prey if you don't pay close enough attention.
Body Features
Though he doesn't appear at first glance to be heavily muscled, under his clothes the definition of him is unnaturally sharp. Some of his muscle groups don't appear quite human or don't move the right way, like something of a different shape moves under his skin.
Facial Features
His face is all sharp, hard planes, equal parts boyish and not. Something like a demented cupid.
Identifying Characteristics
Dark green tattoos in a surprisingly delicate, floral geometric design with many sharp points cover most of his back. They stretch from his nape down to his lower back, where it splits and the ink curls forward around his hips and trails down the tops of his thighs. Hidden in the pattern are the arcane runes is the spell normally used to bind a demon to it's summoner- instead, these runes bind Balakai to himself.
Special abilities
As a demon not constricted by the bounds of being summoned into a human body, Balakai has retained his natural shape. He has learned a little bit of painstaking shapeshifting in order to pass in the world of men. When he lets go of his human shape he is a massive, quadrupedal beast that is vaguely canine, not unlike a Cane Corso. His similarity to any true dog is only passing, as he's over four foot at the shoulder, built quite broad and blocky, with short, fine fur of some dark shade that's hard to pinpoint.
Apparel & Accessories
Balakai looks as though he shops at a thrift store with no regard for the gendering or even appropriate sizing of clothing. His clothes are often oversized, sometimes undersized, and very rarely fit properly. He leans into garish patterns and colors. Though it often looks like he just throws together whatever comes to hand, he very specifically dresses with intent- usually the intent to shock and scandalize. When he's wearing something that could be construed as stylish or nice, it's usually something he stole from Griffin's closet.
These days, he is never without a chain necklace carrying a pair of pet tags. One of them simply says "Mine", the other has his home address on it. The chain looks a bit too bulky and long on him in human shape, but it is sized to accommodate his true form.

Personal history
Balakai is the youngest of five from his litter, with seven older siblings from two different litters. He grew up in a large, rowdy family, raised on oral tradtions passed down since before the angels Fell and took dominion over Hell. He watched his siblings drawn away, a few at a time, to be pressed into their expected service. Hell hounds are grunts, low level troops, body guards. Dogs. He too was called on to serve under a greater demon and for a long time he simply did.
Until a witch summoned his master, and left the gate open a little too long. He stepped through and because the circle wasn't meant to bind him and the witch was quite busy, he just... snuck away. He thought he'd escaped detection but not long after the witch, Adelia, tracked him down. Not to bind him as was his concern, but to make sure he hadn't gotten into more trouble than he could handle.
He came into the world in 1972 in London. He learned to mask his natural shape and plunged into the world with delight for all it offered. While he travelled extensively, London and it's surrounding areas were always his 'home base' and he returned their frequently. He tracked down a witch willing to set a spell into his skin to keep him safe, and willing to make him a promise not to use her knowledge of it against him. That was a great leap of trust, and he is careful to keep an ear out for any harm that may come her way. He is painfully aware that he wants to stay on her good side.
He heard rumor of a fallen angel setting up court in London in the 90's and he started hanging around their on occasion because it was a good time, but he always had the feeling that if he stayed around too long he might end up under someone's thumb. Eventually he fell in with one of the minor angels who were part of Andriel's little court and they had a fairly long, on-again off-again relationship. It was contentious, but the sex was excellent and Balakai didn't much care beyond that. Eventually, that came to an end when Relic Night burned down the club in which Andriel held court and Andriel's attention turned from debauchery to reclaiming the daemon. Shortly after the arson, Balakai and his lover started a fight with Relic in the Cup of Chaos, where Balakai rather enjoyed hanging out as his tastes and the owner's ran to similar types of fun. In the scuffle he was the first to draw blood, breaking one of the few laws held sacred at the Cup. Byron killed his lover and threw him out, permanently banning him from the Cup.
More recently, Balakai discovered Griffin Summerville when they both happened to be in Manchester. Griffin was hunting. Balakai had fallen in with a couple of other supernaturals at a party and when they discovered the witch duel going on they took bets on the winner. Though Balakai lost the initial bet due to Griffin's death, he later one a larger bet on Griffin's ability to take out the coven anyway. Curious and discontent with the idea that Griffin must not have actually been dead, he began to stalk the witch whenever he could track him down. Usually he didn't bother to chase him across the ocean when he left Europe, but the longer he watched, the more fascinated he became.

Balakai's family is extensive. He is one of five litter mates and has seven older siblings from two other litters. He was close to them and his parents growing up, especially his mother and his litter maters. Their household was composed of quite a lot of extended family, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc. It was rarely stable, as they were often called on to serve greater demons and such service didn't exactly come with a 9 to 5 schedule and weekends off. He hasn't seen them in decades though- not since well before he walked out of Hell. He doesn't really expect he will see them again.

Balakai tends to be too aggressive and shocking for most people to appreciate, but when he puts his mind to it he has a sort of endearing, rapscallion charm. He utterly ignored social convention unless it serves him.

Speech
In general, Balakai's voice is a pleasant, light tenor. It is a practiced, effected speech with distinctive London accent. However, when this affectation slips, his voice drops into a deep and gravelly bass that reverberates through his chest and always seems on the edge of a growl. His accent changes as well, still faintly Londoner but more lyrical, more like the angelic-type languages he grew up speaking.
