Grip - Daggerkeep
Daggerkeep is a fully-militarized Hobgoblin settlement counting Al-Jaran within its hunting ground. While its members abide by the Code of Bargrivyek and refuse to take mercenary contracts that would require operating within the cities of Folk, they are perhaps the most fearsome mercenaries available in the desert areas around Al-Jaran. While ignorant city-folk commonly speak of them in fear, it is well-known to those who spend their lives traveling the desert that so long as you show respect, do not impede them in the completion of their missions, and do not become the target of one of their contracts, they are unlikely to cause harm. But, as far as anyone can tell, all who have shown disrespect, hindered their missions, or become a target of one of their contracts are already dead.
Physically, the Grip is an elaborate fortress complex built against, and partially into, the base of a mesa half a day's journey from the city. It is less than half the size of Drumhold Grip, the massive Hobgoblin fortress close to Seth, but the General who has lead it for nearly forty years, Soruukh Jhave, is arguably the most famous and well-respected Hobgoblin in Acroshia hia. She rarely leaves the Grip, but under her guidance the Hobgoblins of Daggerkeep have developed a proud reputation among the other races as the most skilled, efficient, and professional mercenaries to be found anywhere in the Deadlands.
Even after a mysterious series of events led to the depletion of most of the Fourth Banner, the promotion of its Spear, Jhon Go, to Captain-Quartermaster, and the mutilation of the previous Captain-Quartermaster, Daggerkeep Grip remains strong, with at least eight full-strength Banners remaining. Only Soruukh Jhave, Jhon Go, a few other high-ranking leaders, the renegade Dwarf Cyrus Underbreaker, and perhaps a few adventurers who were there know the full truth behind recent events - that Cimoera of the Greater Nine attempted to corrupt their ranks of Daggerkeep Grip, turning one of their Fatal Axe assassins into her Warlock and using him to corrupt the youth, and, in doing so, destroy the pride and order of the entire Grip. But Cimoera's warlock and her fiendish adjutants sent in to assist were purged by a combination of the old Fourth Banner and a wily group adventurers from Al-Jaran, and so the demonic insurgency within the ranks was destroyed before word of it could reach outside ears, though not without substantial loss of life.
Yet, one of the Hobgoblin youths Cimoera successfully corrupted was able to escape, slinking into a cave somewhere, biding his time.
