House of Adjudication
All know and fear the Court of the High Star. The House of Adjudication is the common court in Alham, addressing those crimes which are, if no less serious, at least less celebrated.
By law, these courts are open to spectators, who must be silent during the proceedings. There is no secrecy in the justice of Chrenada. But in practice, few come to see the judicial processes or trials, mostly dull and procedural. Even the trial of Flamen Manceps Ande, high priest of The Gehrn
Purpose / Function
This is the location which handles the vast majority of the criminal justice and civil disputes of the region. Many cases are handled quickly and efficiently, while some others may drag on due to need for additional evidence or other situations.
Contents & Furnishings
The room was not like the Court of the High Star, or at least what Luca remembered of it; he had been half-mad with fear and weariness that day. This was a mundane room, heavy with long implacability and judgment and relatively plain in its furnishings. Luca slipped onto a wooden bench. The court rooms are much less ostentatious than the Court of the High Star, being far more workaday and less of a spectacle. Adjudicators (one to three, depending on the dispute or trial in question) are seated at a shared large table and separated from the plaintiff or defendent by a rail. Behind these, wooden benches provide seating for officers of the court, witnesses, and then finally any spectators.
