Beat

A beat, or drumbeat, is what we called the magical leaves of the Symbiosis drums. If they are born from feeding the creature with helful and protective emotions, they will be powerful protection items, keeping danger away when possible, and repelling or healing its effects when needed.
And those are the leaves we give to Outsiders when they arrive, though they look as little different jewels or clothes decoration.
They are by no means infalible, so don't go testing it at the forest, but they help a great deal to keep reasonable clients alive when they have to go to the forest to fulfil their goal.
We don't reuse them, apparently they get used to a person and become a bit lazy when given to someone else. Many outsiders take theirs home, where they continue to work, but often they struggle to understand dangers in those new places.

Manufacturing process

Each leaf is inmersed in the liquid Remembrance right after it's cut from the Rooted Drum, and send to one of the jewelers.
The rest of the proces varies from artist to artist. Some will use a charmed needle to turn the leaf into a decorative patch or button, others will turn them into shinny pendant (or woody, one of those guys does the prettiest wood trinkets) to attatch to a bracelet or neck chain. There's a girl who uses the spine of a knife to neatly cover the leaves with this adhesive film she calls contact paper and somehow that turns into stickers.
Some take a minute, others require a whole day, and the variety allows different jewelers to be invested enough on the work to have good results, and clients have a lot of options to chose from.

History

During the analysis of the behaviour and nature of the Symbiosis drums, biologists determined that some of the leaves had certain magic properties that would heal the rest of the creature, reduce agressiveness in every being around them, act as shield or prompt people to share their deepest secrets or interests.
When they confirmed that the leaves behaviour was influenced by the emotions the creature fed on, but usually went for the most protective or powerful of those emotions, Katerina suggested that those could be used to create something that reduces the amount of clients and outsiders that got hurt in the Company's premises.
The Granter and a few scientist from the Security worked on the design of a substance that kept the leaves alive and magical after being removed from the plant, and the biologists determined what emotions would be the best food to cause the production of good protection charms.
The hardest part was finding the trick to have enough Rooted Drums to obtain enough leaves without hurting the creatures, but once they discovered it was a ghost and not a symbiosis of two different creatures, it was easy to trigger enough of them.

Jewelers
Part of the client support department, most of them work on their own but they are considered "a team". They are a few artists or artisans of different areas, in charge of designing portable and strong magical defenses for clients and other outsiders. Currently, they all work designing Beats.
