Shards

People

The History of Shards so far

The company premises weren't always like this. Once, there was no Company. The rules were unclear and wishes would be scams, tricks, too much or not enough... sometimes, they weren't granted at all. And who ruled the place back then? Legends among the employees talk about genies or fairies, dragons or witches, it depends on who's telling the story and the culture where they lived, you know, before.   Some believe that those mythical creatures were invented based on the long forgotten stories of those who walked the path of regret and found some form of granting entity. Others think that the magic here has attracted many magical creatures as the eons passed by. Many are sure that it's all baseless gossip.   In truth, nobody knows anything about the original inhabitants of this place, except maybe the Granter and some of the administrators. Those who never talk about it. Those with the cryptic smiles and severe frowns.

Current Species & Cultures

The Employees

Once inhabitants of some other world, now they live in company premises and work for the Granter.

They were once hopeless, broken beyond repair: the perfect material to build The Company with. Some hesitated when invited, but they all accepted willingly... right?

The Clients

Visitors from the regular world.

They come from all kinds of places and cultures, but all of them have one thing in common: something to wish for, something they lost or are too late to get. Not all of them are able to pay for it, but they all want to—whether they are brave enough to admit it or not.

Needs & Relations

The Granter is the one who controls the Shards and decides what to do with them, and both employees and clients are fully aware of how they are dependent on him and the power he holds.   The employees had accepted this from the moment they took their job, and it's more or less accurate to say that they are happy with the situation as it is. As for the clients, most of them don't know the Granter, just his rules, and some like them more than others but in the end the only question is, will they pay for what they want?   Not many keep in mind—and no one as well as the Granter—that the shards come from the clients. The magic in the premises and the power to grant wishes only exist thanks to what some of them had given up and—at least in normal conditions—the future depends on the new clients' shards.
