Report: The Eagle's Diplomacy
General Summary
In response to the recent news of the death of the great eagle spirit known as Akil’zon, I commenced on a journey to speak to the Runidiri people at their temple. The death of Akil’zon came at the hands of local adventures and quickly marred the relationship between humans and Runidiri. Although I was not there when the murder took place, I was once part of the Runidiri tribe and the loss of Akil’zon cause me great sorrow. The Runidiri were right in their hostility, yet chose not to directly declare war. Instead they declared that should humans enter their domain, they would kill on sight. The sole objective of this venture was to attempt to mend the relations of each side and prevent further escalation through clarification of the events and the intent to try and repair any grievances caused if possible.
Four others joined me on this trip. First, Stiks. Stiks was a member of the party that found conflict with and inevitably killed Akil’zon. On his return to Gravesend he came to me with great remorse for his actions, and though I was devastated to hear the news, it was easy to see that his heart was kind and in the right place. Patrick Smith, an individual I have adventured once with before, joined us and was someone I could trust in. Lord Harys needs no explanation, but joined us to oversee the meeting and assure things went well. Finally, Russel, a man who I am not familiar with, joined us. His charisma would be an asset.
The group set off fairly early in the day on our way to the Stonehorn mountains. Later in the day, we entered Runidiri territory and quickly observed something alarming. In the road was an abandoned cart and 5 dead human corpses around it. They were all killed by arrows, which we quickly predicted were a result of an attack from the Runidiri. As we investigated I checked the arrows and quickly confirmed our suspicions. The arrows were the same arrows we used in the tribe. It became immediately clear that the Runidiri were keeping their word and we would be at risk here.
We buried the bodies which took approximately an hour and decided to make camp early rather than making this trip in the night. I took the first shift which was peaceful, but when I went to bed we had a visiter. Patrick took the second shift and began some discourse with this individual, before finally waking the rest of us up. What I awoke to was a strange, but handsome man with a nice beard, long hair, simple outdoor clothes and not one, but two axes meant for cutting wood. While I had no familiarity with this individual it was clear that Stiks and Russel were well acquainted with him. It was revealed the man was named Edgar and was a frequent trader with the Runidiri people in this area. After explaining the situation regarding Akil’zon Edgar seemed rightfully bothered as it would possibly interfere with his business. Stiks and Edgard seemed to be either playfully or angrily making comments towards each other that left me wondering if these two liked each other or not, but the result was that we agreed to travel together until we got to our destination. Edgar made it clear he was leaving soon, so we followed.
A few hours later in the forest mountains we noticed that we were not only being watched, but were greatly outnumbered and surrounded. Our group called out to them and we dropped all of our weapons and they quickly approached. Fortunately, at the head of this particular group was Stonespring, a young elf woman who had always treated me with kindness. We had a nice interaction and the tension in the air seemed less present. We were directed up the hill and were met with a massive beautiful temple built into the side of the mountain. Though I had resided here previously, it was still a sight to behold.
We were led through an area in the rock face that was homed to a large circular table. At this table were ten seats. Five were meant for us, and the other five were meant for a council that was formed to listen to our plea. At the opposite side of the table in the middle seat sat Soaring Sky. Soaring Sky is a powerful druid and is at the head of the people here at this temple. She is a member of the Dreamseers clan and her wise and outspoken raven called Tasik sat on her shoulder. To her left was Grayblossom, a male Moonclaw clan elf who had taken a dislike to me when I lived here, and particularly disliked outsiders. To his left was Longtalon, the fiercest warrior of the temple and a member of the Moonclaw clan who clearly sought vengeance. It was said she was already on a warpath. On the other side to the right of Soaring Sky was Tranquil Stone and Cloud Hawk, both members of the Treemender clan.
The general message of our perspective was that Stiks and his allies had killed the great spirit seemingly out of defense and confusion. They were not familiar with the spirit and presumed it to be a summoned roc spirit of a previous enemy they had; a goblin tribe which could also summon boar spirits. The great spirit had thought the party had stolen an important staff from the elves when in-fact they had stolen it from the goblins. We returned the staff and we expressed great remorse, stating ignorance had been a major component in this mistake among many other things. After great frustration and key back and forth moments, we ultimately found some success. An agreement was made that war would not commence and the conflict would cease as long as not a single further transgression was committed. Additionally, to prove our word that we would help to make things better we were assigned a mission. The staff would be returned to us and we would bring the staff to Nago, the great boar spirit in the Renhunt Forest.
We must all do our part to protect the spirits even if they are not important to human society. If not for the Runidiri people, then to prevent any more unnecessary bloodshed and conflict.
