Utility

Once Fur Dressing is complete, the furs can be used as is or be sent to elsewhere to be used as covers on blankets, as coats (but only the rich get these), as tunics to under armor.

Social Impact

This had a huge impact. When this was discovered, it allowed people protection against the elements. Even untreated the fur could be used as a blanket. But the people found that by "dressing" the fur, it lasted longer. Being able to also lay on the fur, espcially when having to sleep on the ground gave a layer of protection. In coat form, it gives protection against the cold when outside. As refinement of this technology progressed, so did what could be done with the furs progressed as well.

Access & Availability

This technology is availabe to all, as there are fur proecessors in all major cities and towns. Though the quality of fur one buys is dependent on wealth.

Complexity

As there are several steps to processing fur to make it useable for blankets and other items, it requires study under a master.

Items Needed

Revolving Blade: To remove excess fat and leather.
Dressing chemicals in Tanning Vats: Salt, water, sawdust, lanolin, etc.
Natural Oils: To be added after removal from Tanning Vats.
Revolving Drums: With sawdust, are used to remove excess frease and further soften
Plucks, Shears, Dyes: To be used for those who can afford it

Discovery

It was discoverd in the early days of Tangwyn that many of the animals they killed for food had soft fur that could be used. Through trial and error, people learned how to skin the animals without damaging the fur. A side benefit of this was that they were able to then use all the meat for food.
