The Nekroti (Nek-roe-tie)

A mysterious progressive illness appeared amongst the residents of Lyra. The symptoms were unlike anything known to the local herbalists and priests of Pharika. Coughing up black mucus, wet sores oozing black puss, skin sloughing off to reveal necrotic muscle tissue. Behavioral changes such as aggression, mania and psychosis. It was highly infectious and began to spread rapidly through the population. Priests, druids and herbalists were called from Leviathalas and Draconia but there was nothing they could do to cure the illness, let alone stop the spread. Over time the Infected began to...change. They would seek dark, wet places in cellars and caves where the disease would fully take control of the bodies and minds transforming them into the Nekroti (The Black Rot).
It is possible that high level magic could stave off the disease, however material components for such spells are prohibitively expensive and not guaranteed to work, let alone the difficulty of finding a spellcaster powerful enough to cast such magic.
