The Nessian War

The diplomats from Strasfield led by Prince Jordan Stras and High Priestess Besma Moonwhisper came upon the town of Lyra on their mission to negotiate an end to regional tensions. When they approached Lyra along the Whispering Road they were stopped by Leviathalan guards who would not permit them entry due to the infection. Instead they were led towards Leviathalas by a Bassara Patrol, however the entire diplomatic party was murdered during their journey, thus igniting the Nessian War. Skirmishes broke out along the border of the Nessian Wood, both sides winning and losing battles, heroes rising and falling like so many blades of grass.   The armies of Strasfield soon reached Lyra where they bombarded the town with fire, slaughtered the legion of Leviathalan and Draconian soldiers guarding the beleaguered town, and stormed the walls. Their goal was to eradicate all traces of the infection through fire and bloodshed and then march on Leviathalas to enact revenge for the fallen Prince and High Priestess. Instead, they found the horrors of the Nekroti. The armies of Strasfield soon found themselves surrounded on all sides by the shambling black masses of infected. The intensity of the conflict must have awoken something within the heart of Mount Dracoliss because a gargantuan dragon wreathed in flame burst forth from the mountains, showering the landscape in molten rock and debris. Ash clouded the sun as the Dragon swept across the battlefield, roaring its intense displeasure. As the Nekroti closed around the Army of Strasfield, the dragon flew low, breathing in deeply it unleashed a massive explosion of molten fire eradicating Nekroti and Soldier alike leaving a scar of lava through the heart of the once beautiful city of Lyra. As the flaming dragon laid its fury upon the defenseless city and its survivors, two shadows passed through the clouds of choking ash and a pair of bronze scaled dragons dove towards the one of flame.   The three dragons battled through the skies, falling then rising again, one bronze dragon cutting in while the second distracted the great flaming beast. The forest burned below them as the Flame Dragon spewed its molten breath. The combined attack was not enough, however, and one bronze dragon fell, crashing into the town below and the other became gravely wounded and was forced to flee on broken wings. The Flame Dragon, wounded from the battle, also fled back into the mountain. And there was quiet.   What remained of the Army of Strasfield entrenched itself outside the southern gates of Lyra intent to keep the city sealed as the infection finally finished consuming the town. The armies of Draconia did the same to the North. It has been two years since the final battle of Nessian War and the two armies remain, neither willing to back down, but neither willing to reignite the conflict with the looming threat of the Nekroti and the great Flame Dragon ever on their minds.
