Lyra (Leer-uh)
When the practice of peregrination was adopted long ago in Leviathalas, there were a number of young men who ultimately found their way back to the polis, not wishing to part ways with the beautiful land they called home. These men began to carve out their own slice of the Nessian Wood, living as closely as they could in accordance to the laws of Karametra and Leviathalas. While Lyra was separate from Leviathalas proper, the polis was never far from the hearts of the men who pledged their lives in defense of the polis and the Wood.
Most recently a mysterious progressive illness appeared amongst the residents of Lyra. The symptoms were unlike anything known to the local herbalists and priests of Pharika. Coughing up black mucus, wet sores oozing black puss, skin sloughing off to reveal necrotic muscle tissue. Behavioral changes such as aggression, mania and psychosis. It was highly infectious and began to spread rapidly through the population. Priests, druids and herbalists were called from Leviathalas and Draconia but there was nothing they could do to cure the illness, let alone stop the spread. Over time the Infected began to...change. They would seek dark, wet places in cellars and caves where the disease would fully take control of the bodies and minds transforming them into the The Nekroti (The Black Rot). After the first Nekroti appeared, killing two soldiers and infecting a half dozen more, the decision was made to quarantine the town to prevent the infection (and the Nekroti) from escaping. Dozens of druids, rangers and priests used their naturecraft to form massive walls of root and vines to contain the horrors in Lyra. The people were left to fend for themselves as chaos and death erupted around them.
Over the next two months the Cult of the Frozen Faith concentrated their efforts on discovering a cure for the disease, but even Pharika's most devout followers had no answer. Some believed Pharika responsible, but her priests confirmed repeatedly that this was nothing like anyone, even the Gods, have ever seen. Meanwhile Lyra had descended fully into anarchy as the last survivors began to form factions that warred with one another for supplies while trying to avoid the Nekroti. Ideas were thrown around such as razing the whole town while others insisted that a cure would be found. The Army of Draconia came to help secure Lyra and provide support for the druids and priests that tended to the walls.
After The Nessian War the town of Lyra sits under guard of the Army of Strasfield to the South and the combined Draconian and Leviathalan forces to the North. The infection has been left to spread unchecked through the town and still, no cure has been found.
