Scions of Ash

An honorific for the three dominant species of Manan (the Vol Yfra, the Seyad, and the Titanites, the Scions of Ash refers to the time following the Great Galactic Revolution, when these three species emerged from the ashes of war.   In truth, at least seventy-four known species had been enslaved by the Sarthi at the time of their fall. As was their wont, the Sarthi had bred and genetically manipulated the various creatures of the known galaxy into forms they deemed ideal to whatever purpose they wished served. These seventy-four species were or are thought to have once been intelligent peoples. Many of them had been bred or manipulated into things of grotesque appearance and bestial intelligence. Some were little more than war machines, great monsters that the Scions had no choice but to destroy, lest their newly-formed civilization be destroyed. Others seemed crafted exclusively for their own suffering, and the Scions felt compelled to put them out of their misery. Yet surely there must have been some, intelligent enough, that for whatever reason did not fit into the world the Scions sought to create. These were called the Spawn of Sarth, and they were by-and-large wiped out from all civilized planets. It is widely supposed that many still exist on smaller, wilder worlds, or even that there were other species long forgotten, utterly destroyed ten-thousand years ago.   For the Vol Yfra, the Seyad, and the Titanites, the term "Scion of Ash" is a unifying force that presents the three peoples from warring against each other. Conflicts abound between and within the Six Rings of Manan, but these far more often revolve around inter-family rivalries, political struggles, and resource warfare.   It must be said that, with the Titanites emerging as the dominant peoples in the Six Rings, "Scions of Ash" has also become a means of distinguishing the Titanites from their cousins on undeveloped planets, who bear strong superficial resemblances to them but lack the benefits of their scientific advancements.
