Kheree the Raven
A member of the Ujik-Hai. He serves Tomorbataar Khan as his chief shamanic advisor, but has his own goals and machination. His mother is Sarnai.
Your name is Kheree. It means “raven” in the language of the Ujik-Hai.
You were a thoughtful, friendly youth. Sensitive to emotions and to the movements of the spirits. Your mother, Sarnai taught you bits and pieces of the shamanic arts and despite your natural talent you were a middling student, preferring to spend time making new friends. When the Rokugani began to push further West, you welcomed them and made many friends among them, and invited them to trade with your people. A time of great prosperity dawned for your tribe.
One day as you meditated atop a mountain, a spirit came and whispered to you of an ancient war between a people called the Old Ones and spirits called the Manitou, and a strange pact made between the two to end the war. Your conversation was cut short, however when you heard musket fire from below. You ran down the mountain as fast as you could but by the time you arrived it was much too late. The horrors you found were too numerous and unspeakable to recount. They had slaughtered or enslaved your entire tribe. It was the Rokugani. The very ones you had welcomed into the tribe. Only your mother, Sarnai had survived, but barely. You were now the last son of a dead tribe.
Hate seized your heart and you wandered the land in a daze for some years. The spirit from the mountain-top would sometimes come and speak to you and tell you more of those ancient days, and how the Old Ones had pursued the Manitou into a realm called the Hunting Grounds and had stayed there to keep the Manitou trapped. Through these visions you have learned the Manitou seek to return, and bring about a great reckoning upon the world. As such, they are often called the Reckoners.
Now a Kurultai has been declared; the time when all the tribes come together to choose a Great Khan to unite them. On the eve of this auspicious event, one of the Clans of Rokugan has fled to beg the Ujik-Hai for protection from their own kind, claiming a centuries old kinship with the people of the steppes. What is to be done?
