Koganshi Taniko

A young bushi from a vassal family to the Shiba. She is so young that her armor and sword look slightly out of place on her, but her eyes are brave and determined. She has fallen in love with a peasant stable-boy named Koji . After several romantic meetings at the Cave of Foundation, unbeknownst to either of them, Koganshi Taniko became pregnant.
Her father, Koganshi Arata , was killed protecting the loggers from a supernatural being known as the Great Stag or the Forest King. Seeking revenge, and wishing to honor his sacrifice, she joined the expedition known as the Great Beast Hunt. She bonded with Akodo O-Shoen and helped him kill a saber cat. He gave her one of its teeth as a trophy, keeping the other for himself. She was killed fighting the Great Beast (the Forest King), just as her father was, protecting her group so they could escape. O-Shoen ("Gunsmoke") gave her a red scarf, making her an honorary, if short-lived, member of Red Company.
