Moto Batu
Trained as a merchant in the Ide School, Batu chose to return to his roots and act as a liaison between the Unicorn and the tribes living beyond Rokugan, working as a traveling merchant/peddler. His sturdy mountain pony - which he refers to as "my shaggy boy" - is never far from his side.
He is gregarious, loves haggling, and is very good with animals. He also tends to be overly blunt and is an irrepressible flirt. He tries not to overstep, but his attentions can be quite annoying. He almost never pursues actual relationships, however.
His apprentice is Yoritomo Takeo.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Short and stocky with a gaijin appearance. A little portly, but otherwise in good health.
Facial Features
Round, with ruddy cheeks. Always smiling warmly. More closely resembles one of the Ujik than this fellow samurai.

Personal history
Batu left Rokugan 4 and a half years ago to train a young Mantis boy in the mercantile arts. While in the Ivory Kingdoms, his bodyguard got drunk and handsy with a dark-skinned young woman from far off Ifri. She killed him with her assegai. Batu never liked his yojimbo and hired the young woman on the spot. Her name is Mbali and she's been with him ever since.
Batu was out of the Empire during the rise of the Confederacy and the start of the Civil War.
