The Mother of Beasts (a.k.a. Artemis)

"The Mother of Beasts. That sums up Artemis very well, actually: ever since the humans walled up their side of the mainland, She took roost in the Helian Ruins, remnants of the old city of Sunovia. Some assume that She is the foil of Typhon, as they are both gigantic winged beasts, but She is actually the foil of the Great Beast Inguma. I wonder if the two have ever met."
--An entry from Ke'tlan's journal of Solarian Mythos

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The Bow and Quiver

Despite Artemis being a Gryphic Drake, She is highly associated with the hunt. Folktales say that She is able to harness electricity, and smite Her meals with a thunderous blast from Her Elektrik maw. In an earlier reincarnation, the peoples of the far north-west gave tributes to Her in exchange for Her feathers.

The Tower of Ages

A modern association due to Her current reincarnation state, the Tower of Ages appears as a tower with three rows of eye-like windows. This symbolizes Artemis' multiple-eyed visage. Despite Her calm demeanor, She is associated with The Tower in human Tarot, due in part to Her erroneous association with the Drake Typhon.

Tenets of Faith

  1. Protect your family, by all means: they depend on you, and you should depend on them.
  2. Show compassion towards everyone: a stranger's day may be brightened by such an action.
  3. Give what you can spare to others: what may make you a tiny bit full might keep an entire family fed.
  4. Understand when pacifism is unnecessary: abstainment of evil acts is the same as you being evil yourself.

Holidays

Vite's Solstice: Sol 1 [Gryphos 15, or December 23rd]

The first day of Sol, this day generally marks the day in which human children are kept home for a few weeks' vacation. Unknown to humans, this day also marks the start of the Great Migration near the Helian Ruins, where the mature Olstrix and Alscops head to the more fruitful planes of the north.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

To test humanity, is Artemis' ultimate goal. How She goes about it is by standing at the sight of the Helian Ruins, awaiting the day that Her Champion selects a worthy adversary for Her to challenge, or a day in which a Corrupt Soul (in Her eye) learns about Her place of rest and comes to rid Her of Her Power. She remains a watcher of what She claims are Her Children, the Olstrix and Alscops, so unlike Typhon, She is keenly aware of mortality.   Like the Great Beast Inguma, Artemis experiences life and death tangentially: when She dies, Her so-called "title" gets granted to the strongest Gryphon second to Her. This means that, while Artemis retains the memories of Her past selves, each reincarnation has a distinct personality. All of them share the trait of compassion, but the way that they go about it changes with each "version".

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Artemis is best characterized by three pairs of eyes on a sharp, bare visage. Another important feature of Hers is the dense layer of pycnofibers that covers the vast majority of Her body. As Her kind is said to be the ancestor to modern dogs, Artemis is four-limbed, with scales that cover the forelimbs from talon to elbow. Being a Winged Drake, She has a pair of wings independent of Her front limbs.   Artemis is not known to appear in a human form-- rather, she is known for having a Champion that takes some of the features on their visage. These features are scaly arms, a second pair of eyes, and a somewhat dense feathering of integument down the back.
