The Kin'ra
(also known as the Kinnar)
"Kin'ra, known as Kinnar in Daemonic research papers, are the poster child when it comes to Daemon. They look stoic, they look intimidating, they look ruthless. Many Kin'ra uphold this stereotype, not because they desire to, but because they fear that a break of tradition would mean a loss of Daemonic culture as a whole."
---Loreto Alvarez, 'Beyond the Wall: An Architectural Approach to Ancient Civilizations'
Basic Information
Biological Traits
A Kin'ra is identified by three main traits: at least one pair of horns, large wings, and a flat face. Integument is usually only hair, but many Kin'ra of high elemental attunements have been found with feathers on their body.
Elemental Acuity
Kin'ra have the highest elemental attunement of all Daemon, and are capable of inducing hypnosis and amnesia. Of all the Daemon subraces, they are the most likely candidate for Superadultdom, taking on positions such as Seers, Kalitokura, and, if they qualify, Lith.Additional Information
Social Structure
Kin'ra are the highest caste of Daemon in Daemonic society, and thus hold the most prestigious and elite positions of power. The most well-known position of Kin'ra are them being the sole members of The Council. Outside of direct leadership positions, Kin'ra are high-class merchants, teachers, and artisans of their trade. It is widely believed that the best craftmanship and services that a Daemon can get are those from a Kin'ra.
Facial characteristics
A Kin'ra's face is known to be the closest resemblance to the ancient Daemon race of long ago, being mainly flat with vertically-slit nostrils. Usually, but not always, their eyelids are slanted, and their pupils are slitted like that of a bird of prey. Some, not all, have protruding tusks that extend down the sides of the bottom lip, and many have a defined jawline. Horns typically come from the forehead, but some Kin'ra horns sprout right above the ears.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Kin'ra are named multiple times throughout their lifetime. At birth, they are given a short, usually mono-syllabic word in Daemonic Pidgin as an Infant name. When they become a few years of age, and show some promise, they are given a Child name, which is usually a combination of different words.
As Adults, Kin'ra children may choose to forgo their old name for a new one, keep their old name, or transform their old name into a new one. Since Adult Daemon usually integrate themselves into human societies, whether in part or in full, they tend to choose names disguised as human ones.
If a Kin'ra is to reach Superadulthood, they may get an honorary title. This honorary title is a broad term, akin to "Doctor" or "Leader", but functions as a replacement name. A Superadult's adult name isn't entirely forsaken, however: those that hold similar job descriptions are capable of using the Adult name of their colleagues.
Some name examples:
Infant: Baba, Didi, Héhé, Kiki, Roro
Child: Bodabat, Foligaza, Polkamilne, Shedirafrita, Wenirofen
Adult: Chelïs, De'ran, D'weni, Ke'tlan, Satcha
Superadult: Gazimra, Lith, Tokulira
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Kin'ra, of course, speak The Daemonic Language, and typically use the Standard Daemonic dialect, with a huge emphasis on formality. After all, Standard is the "dialect of the elites", and Kin'ra are those elites.
